Muhka Wall Touchscreen Wall

We were asked by the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp to create a digital wall in their newly renovated wing. The entire ground floor has been repurposed to expose the vast collection of artworks curated by the Museum. Our touch-wall pulls in data from the Ensembles.org archive, more then 10 years of carefully collected information about all the owned artworks. Applying a recognisable interactive element, we invite the museum visitor, young and old, to play and discover. 

KotobaStamp Interactive Display

2010 National Museum of Ethnology Japanese hiragana is made of a consonant and a vowel sound. And japanese words are made of a combination of hiragana. Kotoba Stamp is a interactive display to understand a mechanism of word and sound using stamps. Each stamp has one sound, visitors can see various graphics and listen to sound which are displayed on a table depend on a stamp combination or the order. This is a first trial to apply our science exhibition know-how to the liberal arts area.

DISPLAX · Skin Ultra · 40 Touch. On February 4 DISPLAX announced the launch of the SKIN ULTRA, a new high performance 40 touch technology. SKIN ULTRA can be used in flat, curved and folding touch screen designs and demonstrates performance that is comparable to the sensitivity of tablets and smartphones. Sizes start 47” and will scale up to 84” later in 2014. Source

Umpqua Retail Experiences (San Francisco Flagship Store). Inquisitive patrons are greeted with a set of projected motion graphics for the Umpqua logotype signage (powered by a 6-projector array). The exterior also includes a system of inviting information displays (The Spark Resource Center “Multiplex”) which cycles between animating modes that include transit information, weather feed, store events schedule, Twitter hooks with corresponding tweets, and short phrases designed to create intrigue for those passing by. The store space features large, multi-touch interactive walls (The Business Inspiration Wall, and The Great Wall) which tell stories of local businesses through video, stills and written content. The Product Ecosystem is an abstract universe of business objectives that customers can explore and see the many ways that Umpqua can satisfy those goals. Patrons can also browse Umpqua’s mobile offerings and get easy access to downloading apps to their devices. Source

Tactile Rendering of 3D Features on Touch Surfaces. In this project, we develop and apply a tactile rendering algorithm to simulate rich 3D geometric features (such as bumps, ridges, edges, protrusions, texture etc.) on touch screen surfaces. The underlying hypothesis is that when a finger slides on an object then minute surface variations are sensed by friction-sensitive mechanoreceptors in the skin. Thus, modulating the friction forces between the fingertip and the touch surface would create illusion of surface variations. We propose that the percept of a 3D “bump” is created when local gradients of the virtual bump are mapped to lateral friction forces. Source

Biological Adjustments. This installation reveals the biological aspects of the reindeer such as its food/nutrition, fur, nose, muzzle and tongue, bone and blood, hooves, horns and it’s natural ability of avoiding other animals. An interactive stand gives a visitor the option of inspecting the various biological aspects of the animal. When selecting a topic of interest, an illustration of a given subject appears on the deer’s figure. Animated visualizations appear on a stand-a-lone reindeer when users select a topic to view.
